flowers in your CSA

Would you consider getting weekly flowers delivered in your CSA? It’s a splurge, but what a cheerful addition it would be! This CSA in Park Slope offers flowers in their deliveries (and bread and eggs, oh, and vegetables, of course).

Ryan and I have been entertaining the idea of getting a CSA, but we don’t cook anymore, as you can tell from my lack of blog posts. We’re hoping the cost of a CSA would force us to cook, but we’re not ready to commit.

I really love how you can buy flowers on almost every street corner in New York. What do you think? Is it worth the cost?

I know I can’t get them. My cats are obsessed with flowers. They would knock over the vase and eat them all up.

Also, here are more flowers from the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and information on our old CSA in Tallahassee.

I’ve moved

Hey Everyone,

Welcome. I’ve moved to my own domain. You can now find me at I’ll be totally in charge of my own theme and servers here. I’ll be working on designing my own blog template and themes, so expect some changes in the future.

rusted antique cars

Yay! It’s here again. I’m so happy this weekend is here. I’ve been on vacation for the past three weekends. Ryan and I went to New York for my birthday (no pictures, sorry), and spent the last weekend at a beach house with some friends. On our way back we stopped at this antique car graveyard outside of Tallahassee. I snapped some photos and placed them on my flickr.

This weekend I’m only doing two things: I’m getting a massage (!), and watching the last episode of Battlestar Galatica (!!!). Last episode ever. What am I going to do with my life? I’m going to need the massage just to calm down from the tumultuous after-effects. Besides that, I’ll be vegging out. Here are a few links from around the internet.

Ryan is making this tofu and cauliflower fried “rice” for dinner tonight. I can’t wait.

Thin Mint and Bailey’s Chocolate Float – Holy cow! Just in time for Girl Scout Season.

Also, slow cooker chocolate and nutella bread pudding is a complete win. I need more reasons to use my slow cooker.

This Saul Steinberg photograph is so fun to look at.

This has been quite a week for foxes. First, this fox pillow d.i.y., this starry fox drawing, and then this story about domestic foxes.

And in case you can’t make it down to the amazon Rainforest this weekend, don’t worry. Google did it for you. They’ve added street view to parts of the Amazon river! So cool! I love technology.

What are you doing this weekend?

it’s not too late: last minute new year’s resolutions

We’re only two weeks into the new year. Maybe you’re sick of hearing about resolutions. Maybe they’re passé and maybe everyone has given up. But here are some last minute resolutions that are easy to incorporate into your life. Plus, they’re completely achievable.

Plan a menu for the week and stick to it. Plan it on Sunday, then do all of your shopping and cooking. You’ll never be thinking, what am I going to eat today?

Keep a current resume and carry a business card at all times. You never know who will ask you for one.

Open a retirement account. I know most of my friends don’t have retirement accounts and it scares me. Start saving folks!

Only buy clothes that fit. Stop spending money on something that doesn’t look perfect on you.

Mend your clothes. If you have a nice pair of jeans that are a bit too long and you never wear them because of that reason, drop the $20 to get them altered. Else, they’re just collecting dust in your closet. Or mend them yourself!

Make sure your financial accounts are working hard for you. If not, switch. I recently switched to an Ally interest checking account and savings accounts. They have the best interest rate (hello, interest checking!). Every savings account I have has lowered its interest rate this year. Also, make sure you’re not being charged outrageous interest by your credit card company. Call and see if they’ll lower it. If not, think about switching.

Take someone special out to dinner. This is an easy one. It’s always nice to make someone’s day.

Upgrade your pet’s life. Set a resolution for your cat or dog. Make them happier. I just resolved to spend more time playing with my cats. They think it’s a good resolution.

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these, but I’ve found some useful links on the web this week. I thought I’d share.

– You know those really sugary and soft cookies with frosting that hardly even taste like a cookie? You can find them in supermarkets everywhere every holiday and football season. They’re always decorated with the appropriate holiday theme and practically melt in your mouth. We’ll they’re called lofthouse cookies (who knew?), and here’s a recipe (and the source for the above image).

-A brilliant solution to how to transport a cupcake without smushing the icing. Because we’ve all had this dilemma.

-I really enjoyed BGSK’s food resolutions.

-And this orange candle blew my mind. What? So cool.

This dress. So pretty and perfect for curvy women.

succulents for the summer

After searching for quite some time, I recently obtained some cute succulents from our farmer’s market.

The one on the left is a haworthia plant.

The ones on the right are lithops, or living stones. They’re look like rocks and are smooth and firm, but they have roots.

Unfortunately, after leaving them outside to get some sun, the raccoons thought they’d use my plants as a snack. I really couldn’t believe it. I’ve always been a defender of raccoons, but those days are gone.

The raccoons uprooted all of my plants. I really hope these little guys make it. There are teeth marks all over the lithops.

You can see a chunk missing out of the furthers one in the back. And they pulled some of the haworthia from its roots. I’m hoping the plants make it through. Why do I get so sentimental over plant deaths?

I guess this is a good time to also confess that the flowers Ryan bought me are dying, through no fault of the raccoons.

I love this image. Did you ever read The Little Prince when you were younger? It was one of my favorites.

It’s that time of the week again. Happy weekend all. I plan to eat more grilled food and take a kayaking trip on one of our local rivers. I love kayaking. Northwest Florida is truly a heaven of outdoor treasure.

Anyway, here are some links I’ve been dying to share.

How cute is this umbrella frock? She turned an umbrella into a dress for a costume project.

I’m loving these lace trimmed shorts.

And I can’t tell you how much I’ve been desiring this Kate Spade bag.

I’m still enamored by the terrarium craze. I thought this sewed terrarium tutorial is a unique and beautiful way to display them. Also, glass doesn’t break when the cats knock them over.

These coffee stencils are a great way to make your favorite coffee lover (or yourself) feel special.

Have you ever had a beer cocktail? I had my first one a year ago. They can be so refreshing and strong. I cannot wait to make this raspberry beer cocktail on a hot summer day.

happiness roundup

A lot of my friends have been not-so-happy lately. Many of them have fallen onto hard times or have just lost their way. So, I wanted to share a few links that focus on positivity, happiness, and the like. Also, I’m linking to their parent sites, which happen to be a few of my favorite sites to visit when I’m in need of council or inspiration.

From Moon In Her Eyes

Happy Weekend! I just got an email inviting me to a midnight picnic. What a great idea. Do you have any fun plans for the weekend?

Here are some links to get you through the Friday workday.

In fact, the just out of bed look doesn’t come from waking up in the morning, there’s a science and find out how to do sexy & tousled hair.

I love this skirt, and there’s a tutorial.

This cheap Easter craft is really brilliant.

Here’s a tutorial for a weekender bag. It looks highly useful and functional, but also pretty involved. Regardless, I want to make it.

Things to dream about: sexy and serene bedrooms.

Make something exciting this weekend: Potato Pizza with Rosemary and Brie or Hot Fudge Root Beer Cupcakes.
