d.i.y. chevron rug tutorials

I can’t stop obsessing over these tutorials I saw for chevron rugs.

This one is from High-Heeled Foot in the Door.

And this one is from Tatertots and Jello.

I think both projects cost around $50 and they look fantastic. I can’t wait to make my own. Each rug has a different approach, the top is made from canvas fabric and the bottom one is a painted rug. I don’t know which one I’d like most.

What do you think?

vintage brooch bridal bouquets

Sometimes I can’t help but check out the latest in bridal fashions, even though I have no intention of being a bride. While the dresses and shoes are always lovely, there’s one thing I keep seeing in wedding blogs that makes me pause and stare.

Wedding bouquets made from brooches.

From Fantasy Floral Designs via June Bug Weddings

I just can’t get over how smart these are. If I’m going to pay a lot of money for a bouquet, I’d like it to last.

From Gloria’s Laughter

I also like the idea of durable flowers, in case of wedding disaster.

from The Ritzy Rose

This one is just breathtaking.

From Noaki Jewelry via Green Wedding Shoes

I love how vibrant they are.

From Studio del Fiore

And of course, here’s a d.i.y. tutorial from Offbeat Bride. This is the end result.

What do you think of these bouquets?

ah, wanderlust: dreamy vintage luggage

Sigh. Doesn’t this luggage from GetReadySetGo make you dream of vacationing at some great places?

Like taking a safari…

Upcycled Vintage Train Case

These messenger bags make me want to travel to Italy, or anywhere in Europe, really.

Vintage Dijon Mustard Yellow Messenger Bag

Upcycled Brown Vintage Messenger Bag’

I would love to take this on a fun seafaring adventure.

Upcycled Forest Green Train Case Luggage

Or maybe just take a trip to grandmother’s house. It may be boring, but at least you’ll have some attractive luggage.

Vintage Cream Suitcase Set

The owner of the shop has a blog you might want to check out.

easter egg fun

I just love the idea of using real eggs instead of plastic ones. Don’t you?

Like these decoupaged eggs filled with jelly beans.

It comes with a tutorial from Say Yes! to Hoboken.

Or this tasty and beautiful egg craft from Not Martha, she shows you how to do them.

They’re a hollow chocolate and cream shell that you can fill with goodies. The best part must be cracking open the egg to expose the chocolate. What a weird experience to crack a real egg and find chocolate inside.

When you’re done you can put them in this cute thing:

It’s a crocheted Easter Basket from the Crunchy Catholic Momma. It comes with a pattern, and this basket looks well worth replicating.

Oh, hey. You’re going to want to check these out.

Homemade Cadbury Creme Eggs. Yep. That about says it all.

what I ate this weekend: Jewish Food Fest

Tallahassee makes you a foodie. We have all sorts of ethnic food festivals. This weekend was the Jewish food fest. I haven’t had much Jewish food. I think the only thing I can recall is a latke my bestie gave me in tenth grade. It was really hard to eat vegetarian, but we did spot some of these.

falafel

Falafel pitas. Although these were particularly tasty, I’ve had them before so walked over to other vendors asking “is there meat in this?”

Success.

knish

Potato knish. Comfort food wrapped in a roll of bread.

Of course, everything in the bakery was veg.

Hello Delicious.

bakery items

Hamantashen and Mandlebrot cookies. They were out of cheesecake and strudel when we got there.

If anyone has a recipe for vegetarian matzo ball soup, I’d love to have a go at it.

the weekender 4/8/2011

From Moon In Her Eyes

Happy Weekend! I just got an email inviting me to a midnight picnic. What a great idea. Do you have any fun plans for the weekend?

Here are some links to get you through the Friday workday.

In fact, the just out of bed look doesn’t come from waking up in the morning, there’s a science and find out how to do sexy & tousled hair.

I love this skirt, and there’s a tutorial.

This cheap Easter craft is really brilliant.

Here’s a tutorial for a weekender bag. It looks highly useful and functional, but also pretty involved. Regardless, I want to make it.

Things to dream about: sexy and serene bedrooms.

Make something exciting this weekend: Potato Pizza with Rosemary and Brie or Hot Fudge Root Beer Cupcakes.

two bite brownies

I don’t know why it took me so long to figure this out: brownie batter + petite fours cake pan = super easy and convenient.

I had to make these for a work event. The problem with brownies is they can get really heavy if you transport them in the glass pan. Or they become crumbly, if you cut them into squares and try to transport them another way. Also, I suck at cutting brownies. More brownie ends up on the knife than the plate.

And then this idea just came to me – put those suckers in the petite fours pan. These are the perfect event food because you can eat it with your hands. Also, since they’re smaller, it cut down the baking time by about 10 minutes.

Want to know the best part? You can put the finished product in a gallon-sized zip lock bag and throw them in your purse/car/whatever until you need them. They hold their shape really well. Then, take them out of the bag and stacked them neatly on a nice serving platter.

It was one of those moments where I said “Done and Done” while sweeping my hands together. Yep. I’m super cool.

springtime cupcakes

Hi, I’m back. Things have been more stressful than I care to deal with lately. We’re putting on a huge event at work, with more than 600 people, and I’ve been scrambling around  dealing with caterers, publicity and the like. Part of my job is to solicit donations. My goal is $2,000, right now I’m at about $800 and only have a week left. Because of budget cuts, my job position is getting the boot in the next few months, and I’m working really hard to prove I’m a valuable employee who can put on a rocking party. Oh, I’m an event planner, if you didn’t catch that part. I’ve also been spending all of my free time applying to jobs, since I’m pretty sure an event planner is one of the first things to go when budgets are cut.

Last week was a tough one, and I’m afraid it is only going to get harder until I: 1. Get laid off, 2. Find another Job, or 3. Get promoted (it’s a possibility, it’s just looking very bleak.)

So, I created these this weekend to cheer me up.

Springtime Cupcakes!

Hello, darling!

I got to use my arsenal of frosting tips. I didn’t, however read up on how to use them to create flowers, so I just sort of made it up as I went. This one turned out ok.

These looked a little funky.

This one may have been my favorite.

Easter eggs in the grass cupcake.

The hat cupcakes were a big hit. Sadly, I didn’t get a good picture of them. This is the worst looking one with a broken brim and melty buttercream. They were a blast and easy to make. I found the instructions at My Cake School Blog.

Then I made these, which I thought looked really Dr. Seuss-like.

These cupcakes are so vibrant and cheerful. How can they not cheer you up? I spent the rest of the week pushing them on my friends, neighbors, strangers…you know, my usual routine, so I won’t have a house full of cupcakes.
